University Bound and Healthy Eating – Thank You to Safeway

A Thank You to Safeway from the NPSS Biology 12 Students who received some information on healthy eating for when they head off to university in the fall. The following is from NPSS Biology Teacher Sarah Huggins:

Friday April 17, the NPSS Biology 12 classes went to Safeway where they were welcomed by Stan Parker, the Manager of Safeway with healthy treats.  These students are headed to post-secondary school, where they will be living on their own while preparing their own meals, and eventually preparing meals for their future families.  They were toured around by Melanie Chapple, a Registered Dietitian from Northern Health BC where they learned how to choose healthy foods, healthy options, portion size while on a budget and what to look for on a nutritional label.  As well, Valerie Weber, a Safeway Pharmacist, informed the student about the types of diabetes, signs, symptoms, risk factors, and treatment for diabetes as well as a career in Pharmacy.   The Biology class is thankful to Safeway for providing this opportunity to enrich our class lessons and provide us with real world applications to make healthy choices.
