Teacher Recruitment Schedule
As we go into the New Year we are also going into recruitment season! While we will miss getting to see everyone in person we are so excited to meet so many new people virtually!
School District #60 (Peace River North) posts job opportunities through Make a Future – Careers in BC Education.
You may apply online and will need to log in or register for a Make A Future account.
School District 60 posts teaching positions as a temporary position. Our local contract for teachers requires 20 months of teaching employment prior to a teacher converting to a Continuing Contract. Teachers in temporary teaching assignments accrue seniority towards post & fill and this seniority is taken into consideration when filling teaching postings. Teachers who work with us regularly secure long term employment even though vacancies are posted as temporary.

Teachers New to B.C. & New Teachers
If you are new to BC or new to teaching you will need to apply for a BC Teaching Certificate and a Teacher Qualification Service (TQS) Card.
Applying for a BC Teaching Certificate
Applications for BC Teaching Certificates are made to the Teacher Regulation Branch (TRB) online.
There will be several documents that you need to submit to the TRB for your application.
If your application is missing any documents the TRB will notify you via email.
You can check the status of your application anytime online by logging into the account that you created to submit your application. Should you want School District 60 to follow up on your application on your behalf please contact Human Resources at firstname.lastname@example.org for a consent form.
Applying for a Teacher Qualification Service (TQS) Card
A TQS Card determines the category in which you are placed on the teacher salary grid. Applications for TQS Cards are made through the Teacher Qualification Service online.
Many of the documents that you will need to send to the TQS will be the same as the ones you need to send to the TRB. As such, we recommend that you start your TQS application at the same time as your application to the TRB. This way, once the TRB completes your application and notifies the TQS that you have received a BC Teaching Certificate the TQS will already have the rest of your application.
Should you start employment with School District 60 prior to your TQS Applications School District 60 will backdate any changes in the rate of pay to the effective date on your TQS card. Please note that there are three potential effective dates depending on when you submitted your TQS application.
Deadlines are listed on the TQS Website.
If you are interested in teaching in BC and would like to know what category you would be on the salary grid, you can request a pre-evaluation.
