Skills Canada Regional Event Celebrates Outstanding Achievements of Peace River North Students in Various Trades

Fort St John, February 22nd, 2024 – Northern Lights College in Dawson Creek, recently played host to the Skills Canada Regional Event, showcasing the exceptional talents of young individuals in various trades. The event, which took place on February 16th, 2024, witnessed fierce competition and impressive displays of skill from participants across the Northern Region.

The Skills Canada Regional Competition not only celebrated exceptional skills in various trades but also dedicated a special event to empower and highlight the achievements of women in the field. The Women in Trades event served as a platform for talented women to showcase their prowess in traditionally male-dominated trades.

Spaghetti Bridge Builders Take Spots – Gold: Kaleb Stevens-Fleming, Niko Mackey and Violet Hilliard, Silver Malak Bouhsine,  Madison Laboucan, Lauren Holtmann and Gabriela Peters

The Spaghetti Bridge competition witnessed remarkable performances, with the gold medal awarded to the outstanding team of Kaleb Stevens-Fleming, Niko Mackay, and Violet Hilliard. Silver Medal, the commendable efforts of Malak Bouhsine, Madison Laboucane, Lauren Holtmann and Gabriela Peters were recognized, adding to the event’s vibrant atmosphere.

Cabinet Making Excellence: Abel Tjepkema Secures Gold, Kosi Mgbaja Claims Bronze

Abel Tjepkema demonstrated exceptional craftsmanship in Cabinet Making, securing the gold medal. Kosi Mgbaja’s skills were also recognized with a well-deserved bronze.

Electrical Wiring Brilliance: Micah Saunderson received Silver and Dylan Biley Earns Bronze

In the Electrical Wiring category, Micah Saunderson received the medal and   Dylan Biley’s proficiency earned him the bronze.

Hairstylist Extraordinaire: Ariel Hesketh Tops Gold, Tulia McGuire Silver and Meadow Sturt Bronze

The Hairstylist competition was a showcase of creativity and skill, with Ariel Hesketh claiming the gold medal. Tulia McGuire secured silver, and Meadow Sturt earned the bronze, highlighting the diversity of talent in this category.

Robotics Triumph: Gold for Lucas Benko and Bradley Crawford, Nolan Cote and Josh Coenders Silver and Bronze for Ashlynn McInnis and Emma North

Lucas Benko and Bradley Crawford showcased their mastery in Robotics, claiming the gold. Nolan Cote and Josh Coenders secured silver, while Ashlynn McInnis and Emma North took home the bronze.

Welding Excellence: Julian Rempel Secures Gold, Logan Dufresne Clinches Bronze

In the challenging Welding category, Julian Rempel’s exceptional skills earned him the gold medal, while Logan Dufresne’s proficiency was acknowledged with the bronze.

The Skills Canada Regional Event serves as a testament to the dedication and talent of the participating students, as well as the ongoing commitment to fostering excellence in trades and technology education.
