CANADIAN WELDING ASSOCIATION – MIND OVER METAL CAMP

School District #60 will be hosting a CWA Mind Over Metal Camp from July 3rd to 8th at North Peace Secondary School.

The CWA Foundation Mind over Metal Camps are an initiative that began with a two week pilot camp in 2014. This pilot camp was so successful that in 2015 the Foundation hosted 15 camps across Canada, 35 in 2016, and it is expected that this number will exceed 50 in 2017.

Targeted at youth, Mind over Metal camps are changing the perceptions of youth and their parents about welding and careers in welding. Hands on learning at these camps is building confidence and self-esteem and giving many youth a reason for continuing on to secondary and post-secondary education. Welding has captured their attention and is giving them a focus for their future.

School District #60 would like to thank the CWA for the opportunity to host the Mind Over Metal Camp and the generous donation of $10,000 to update the welding machines in the shops across our district.  This donation has allowed our students to learn on modern equipment, be more engaged, and learn valuable skills that will help them later on in their careers.

The shop classes in our district are where students are able to learn hands on skills that are the foundation of our Work Experience, Apprenticeship and Dual Credit programs.

Thank you for the generous support,

Brian Campbell
District Principal of Careers and International Education
