Tentative Agreement between BCTF and Provincial Government

The following message is from the Superintendent of Schools, Dave Sloan.

Dear parents/guardians,

I am happy to report that this morning, school districts received confirmation of a tentative agreement between the BCTF and the provincial government. With assistance from mediator Vince Ready, the two sides have worked out the framework for a negotiated settlement. Both sides continue to meet to finalize the settlement, which will then need to be ratified by both teachers and school boards.

The past several weeks have been difficult for everyone involved, and there continue to be many questions about the exact date and procedures that will be used to re-open schools. Over the next few days, all district personnel will be making the efforts needed to open our buildings as soon as possible. We all look forward to welcoming back your children. Details as to when, and how, schools will be reopened, will be posted to this website, and broadcast via local media, as soon as they are available.

Thank you for your ongoing patience through this long and difficult time. No doubt everyone is relieved that the new school year will soon be getting underway. I’m certain we are all looking forward to getting back to teaching and learning together.

Sincerely,

Dave Sloan
