Thank you to Kim with Sand & Stone Jewelry who raised funds for the SD60 meals program, and to the Fort St John Firefighters Charitable Society who matched those funds for a generous donation of $3000. The meals program helps students in need across the district with healthy meals and snacks.

Donations from community partners help a variety of programs in the school district. The generosity of our community helps to maintain and grow vibrant programs such as the district meals program, SD60 Band, Cameron Lake Outdoor Education Centre, and more.

We greatly appreciate your support.

School District 60 has worked with northern school districts to create an accessibility committee and plan to help identify and remove barriers that people with disabilities face when interacting with our organization in their day-to-day lives.

As part of the three year plan we are seeking your feedback on the plan, what we do well to remove barriers, and where can we do better. Feedback will be shared with the northern committee and relevant school district personnel.

You can find our plan and feedback mechanism at https://www.prn.bc.ca/district/accessibility/

During times of wildfires, the District actively monitors the situation to ensure that our schools remain a safe environment for our students and staff.

Our response to wildfire smoke is aligned with the guidance from Environment Canada. We refer to the BC Air Quality Index (AQHI), which provides health-related information and recommendations based on the air quality level. This information is updated regularly throughout the day. Recognizing smoke conditions can change rapidly, Principals check the index when making decisions on whether students should go outside or not.

Consequently, when the index indicates the air quality is poor due to smoke, schools and other sites will practice the following strategies to limit the exposure to smoke:

  • Allow students and staff who are sensitive to the smoke to remain indoors during breaks/lunch;
  • Close all exterior doors and windows;
  • Postpone or minimize outdoor activities, as needed, particularly strenuous activities like Physical and Health Education;
  • Restrict outdoor activities, when the AQHI index is above 10.

Parents who have inquiries or concerns should contact their school.

School speed zones start up on Tuesday, September 5!

In school zones please slow to 30km/h from 8am-5pm on school days and watch for excited kids that may not be watching for you!

Decreasing your speed to 30km/h will only increase your commute a minute or less and help to protect our kids. Will you take a minute to help keep our kids safe?
