One of the best ways of developing goals for ELL students is looking at the Core Competencies related to Positive Personal & Cultural Identity and Communication.  Using the competencies to inform our goals can help with the reporting out process. Below is an example of connecting the core competencies and different adaptations that can be used. Adaptations in “Green” are more classroom based while “Yellow and Red” can be seen as more intensive supports.  It is important to remember that all students can benefit from a teachers use of adaptations and the intensity of adaptations might vary depending on the activities, subject areas and social context.
