My First Snow

It snowed the first time! When I woke up at 7:30 in the morning, everything was covered in white! It was so beautiful. Where I come from in Germany, we get snow maybe two or three days a year, and it is always wet and dirty and it melts way too soon…

On our way to school, we really enjoyed the snow (it was almost 10 cm), and we took a lot of snow pictures. Funnily enough, pretty much everybody at school was in a bad mood because of the weather. Julie and I were the only ones walking around smiling all the time, thinking of the snow… My host mum Kim wasn’t too happy about it either: In her opinion, October 10th is way too early for it to get cold and to snow, and because she hasn’t got her garden finished for the winter yet, she really hopes that the snow will melt again…

After school, we went outside with some friends for a long time, we had a snowball fight and almost everybody got their faces washed with snow at least once. We also tried to build a snowman, but it was just too cold for it, the snow was too fluffy and powdery. When we were all freezing, we went inside to get a hot chocolate (It was minus six degrees outside, pretty cold for my German feelings. And so many people keep teasing me about how I’m going to make the long and cold Canadian winter!).
