Science Resources

s talk science

Let’s Talk Science is a national, charitable organization focused on education and outreach to support and engage children, youth and educators in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. The CurioCity website provides educators with free classroom-ready resources on a variety of scientific issues. All resources are searchable by type and include articles, backgrounders, career profiles, events, educator resources, featured topics, Q&A, research profiles, student projects, and videos. Students can also access the site to find reliable information on scientific topics.

Let’sDoScience60:  As BC educators, we are starting to create science lessons that align with the new BC Curriculum model of “Know-Understand-Do”.  Knowing that two heads are better than one, a group of SD60 secondary science teachers, elementary and middle school teachers, local science experts, and students gathered resources and generated ideas to provide Grades 4 – 7 teachers with resources to help with the planning process.

Through this collaborative effort, the letsdoscience60 website has been created to provide teachers in Grades 4 – 7 with links to lesson plans, field trip ideas, local experts, resources, and more information on  scientific issues that affect our local community.  The resources are organized by content area: biology, chemistry, earth science, physics, and space. As well you will find specific resources that link to curriculum by grade level.

Northern BC Regional Science Fair

Students from around School Districts #59, 60 and 81 compete at their own schools for a spot to go to the Regional Science Fair. Science fairs encourage students to explore their own scientific interests and showcase their learning. Many resources are available to both educators and students on the Northern BC Regional Science Fair website. Volunteer mentors are also available to support students in developing their scientific method.
