We will be learning:

  • Basic music theory
  • Beat
  • Rhythm
  • Reading music – ¼ notes, 1/8th notes, 1/16th
  • Using instruments to demonstrate beat and rhythm
  • Writing songs to go with beat and rhythm.
  • Music staff and note placements
  • Implementing “Music Play” curriculum into the classroom.
  • We will got through lessons step by step
  • Demonstrations of each step
  • The afternoon will be spent with teacher’s going through their music binders putting together lessons with support offered.

BAA Writing Session – January 28, 2019

Join Kim Boettcher in a session to support the updating of previously created and writing of new Board Authority Authorized Courses for Grades 11/12 to meet the new Know-Do-Understand curriculum model.

Last year BAA courses in Grade 10 were updated so they could continue to be offered in this year’s catalogue. Grade 11/12 courses must be updated for early June 2019 to be approved by the Board so they may be offered in the fall of 2019.

New Teachers’ Academy – September 26, 2018


The Peace River North New Teachers’ Academy is intended to help provide information, ideas, teaching strategies, assessment strategies and networking opportunities for early career teachers, teachers new to School District 60 or teachers in a new teaching assignment.

This will be a hands-on session so bring your preferred device and have access to, or paper copies of, curriculum and/or teacher guides, school calendars and any other resources you may need.

An Afternoon with WordPress – September 20, 2018

Session Description:

Over a quarter of public websites run on WordPress. The majority of SD60 websites have run on WordPress for over a decade! This session is targeted at School District staff that maintain a WordPress website. The session will have a short presentation and time to work with Jarrod Bell on your sites or your questions about WordPress.

What Every Primary Educator Needs to Know About Early Literacy:  In this workshop, Christine Fraser will explore the foundational principles of early literacy processing including oral language development, telling stories, retelling stories, composition, early writing, the reciprocity between reading & writing, concepts about print, phonological awareness and the importance of successful, meaningful experiences in early literacy learning.
