It’s time again for image feedback for the WWP. Please add your suggestions below for software or functionality and we will add in anything we can. A major area of focus this year will be on FOSS (Free Open Source Software) such as Open Office, the Tux suite of learning programs, and updates to programs (Notebook 10.7) etc.
Will the glitches with powerpoint shutting down for unexpected reasons and the help office assistant glitching the screen continue with the new image next year?
Please know that we would never plan glitches… that would be called a feature if we did.
A problem with Word always wanting to save the Normal.dot template has been brought to my attention. (In Snow Leopard image)
Mandatory password for sleep / screensaver – FOIPPA, user protection issue
Should we block students from opening the Printer Preferences pane (or maybe at least from making changes)? This would force them to use the WWP Printer Setup Utility and therefor they would no longer print to printers they are not aloud to use (such as office printers). Unfortunately it also means that they would not be able to set up printers at home.
Any comments, suggestions?
Addition to above,
It may be possible to make the WWP Printer Installer open the printer pane if the user is not at a school. this way when they are at a school it will only let them install the Student printers, but at home thy can install anything. I’ll have to look into this.
Another printer consideration might be to limit the number of pages students can print in one batch, if possible. Having a student hold down the return key in Word and getting 100′s of blank pages printing, or having extremely large 50-100 + page research article printouts can really tie up printers needlessly at times. I also like Ryan’s suggestion above as students should have printing rights at home.
We have been experiencing students changing the AutoCorrect options within MS Word – putting some very inappropriate words and phrases in replace of common words. Can we have this option (although it is normally so nice to have) blocked for editing from students?
