Just back from this year’s Making Connections Conference in Richmond. As always it was great to re-connect with likeminded educators on all things PBS. This year we also met teachers from N.W.T. , Fort MacMurray, Winnipeg and Regina who are excited to build Positive Behaviour Supports systems in their schools.
Here are keynote speaker George Sugai’s
9 Considerations for Implementing PBS:
- Invest in prevention for all
- Teach behaviour like academic skills
- Emphasize PBS as a framework not curriculum
- Invest in multi-tiered systems logic
- Invest in capacity for implementation fidelity
- Support and engage
- Work smarter by doing a few effective things very well
- Guide decisions with data
- Consider culture and context
Also check out presenter Tom Schimmer’s blog post “Implement THAT” . He expands on many of the ideas discussed during the panel discussion and applies them to other areas of implementing something new. Tom Schimmer
