Team Peace leaves for Skills Canada Provincials

On Tuesday, April 17, 2018 a team of Peace Region competitors leaves for the Skills Canada Provincial Competition held in Abbotsford on April 18 at the Abbotsford Trade and Exhibition Center.  The competition is open to the public. The team consists of gold winning medalists from the Peace Region Skills Canada competition held in February at Northern Lights College Dawson Creek. The team consists of 30 competitors from SD59, SD60, SD81 and Post-Secondary competitors from NLC Dawson Creek and Fort St John, five teachers, two college staff, four parents and the regional coordinator Mr. Jamie Maxwell.

Skills Canada is an organization which promotes Skilled Trades and Technologies as valued career options for today’s youth; one of the methods is by holding competitions at the Regional, Provincial and National level. Gold medal winning competitors at Provincials will be invited to the Canadian Skills Competition held in Edmonton June 4-5.

 Competitors will be competing in Aerospace Technology, Cabinetmaking, Carpentry, Electrical Wiring, Hairdressing, Job Search, JrSkills Gravity Vehicle, JrSkills Spaghetti Bridge, JrSkills Sumo Robot, JrSkills Wind Turbine, Photography, Public Speaking, Robotics, TV/Video Production, Welding and Workplace Safety. Funding to make the Regional competition and the Provincial field trip possible comes from Skills BC, Encana, SD59, SD60, DCSS PAC and NLC Foundation.
