The following letter from the Superintendent of Schools is attached and will be distributed via your home school today.

Dear Parents/Guardians:
I regret to inform you that the BC Teachers’ Federation and its local representative union, the Peace River North Teachers’ Association, served 72 hour strike notice last Thursday. Consequently, beginning tomorrow, Wednesday, April 23, 2014, teachers will be in a legal position to withdraw services and strike any time over the next three months.
The district has been informed that the strike will take the form of a phased job action. Phase 1 will involve the withdrawal of a number of administrative functions, but will not include the suspension of instruction. In most cases teachers will cease their supervision of students outside their classroom before and after school and at recess breaks.
Administrators and district staff will make every effort to maintain safe levels of student supervision. To assist this effort, and in the interests of promoting student safety, parents are asked not to have students arrive at school more than 15 minutes prior to the beginning of classes, and to ensure that students depart the school grounds promptly at the end of the day. Your assistance in this manner will help administrators greatly as they will now have to supervise the arrival and departure of students and other activities in the school.
In the event of increased job action, rotating walk outs or a full strike, further information will be provided through local media outlets and will be posted at the district website – www.prn.bc.ca. School administrators should also be able to assist you with any questions that may come up. Thank you for your patience and assistance with this challenging situation.
