Stand Up Against Bullying

The City of Fort St John has proclaimed today to be Pink Shirt Day. Pink Shirt Day is a nationally recognized day across Canada to symbolize that bullying will not be tolerated in schools and communities.

Many of our schools will be participating in activities for pink shirt day that discuss bullying. School District 60 staff and schools also work throughout the year to provide safe schools for our learning community members.

Robert Ogilvie was recently featured in an EnergeticCity article regarding the City proclamation and their planned activities for today.

Erasing Bullying at Baldonnel Elementary

Bullying is not just a child’s issue. It is an issue our children, schools, and communities must address together. As part of a strategy at Baldonnel Elementary, Principal Andrew James has raised the flag seen below for the month of February. Schools in our district also take part in Pink Shirt Day on February 26th amongst many strategies used to erase bullying from our schools and communities.

Taylor Tigers Promote Pink Shirt Day

On February 29, 2012 the Taylor Leadership Class promoted Pink Shirt Day. To start their Pink Shirt Day Campaign Leadership Students sold Pink Shirt Day t-shirts to students and staff, eventually selling 75 shirts. They also sold 96 Pink Shirt Day Buttons from February 1-29! House Teams were challenged to earn points for their House Teams by wearing pink on February 29. They earned $170.00 from their sell out bake sale to purchase books and videos about Bullying for the school’s library. Students purchased pink glazed doughnuts and pink frosted cupcakes, which leadership students baked and decorated before and after school! Way to go Leadership Taylor Tigers the Sea of Pink in their school photo illustrates that all your hard work paid off!

Students and staff from Robert Ogilvie Elementary presented to Fort St John city council today asking for the proclamation, which was given, of February 29th as Pink Shirt Day. Pink Shirt Day is a national campaign to end bullying.
